Stella and the bee

Stella's had a life long fascination with bees. If they buzz around, she tries to catch them in mid flight. She's been stung a couple of times inside her mouth but that only makes the game more challenging. If they're not airborne, she just watches them.

This afternoon, she found an injured one crawling around in the backyard.

She stared at it and wouldn't leave it alone for a good hour. I was thinking she might want it for a pet until finally she lapped it up with her tongue out of the crevice it had crawled into and gingerly took a couple of chomps and ate it.

Here's the non-action packed video:

That first picture is great.Stella reminds me of Sally Field in that old show the Flying Nun.

We also have a dog that is bee/hornet/wasp obsessed.

Ha ha, you're spot on about the Flying Nun. If only Stella could fly as well.

LOL! Her ears are amazing. My pibble... she likes ants. She doesn't eat them, but will bite at them and if they touch her mouth she jumps about 2 feet back and bites at it again. The ant usually ends up being flung across the yard/bedroom/wherever and walks off like nothing happened.

Yep, Flying Nun was the first thing hubby and I thought too. What a great picture! :)

The video is blocked at work, but I love the first picture. She looks so focused! One of my Labs loves to chase bees. Luckily, she hasn't caught any yet, but its just a matter of time :-)

Stella is so awesome. The bee never knew what hit him.

My parents' GSD loves bees in the same way. Except he hasn't been stung "a few times"... he's been stung a lot. Bees, wasps, hornets. If it buzzes, he chases it. Maybe they taste good? Tangy?

Now that's concentration. I also love Stella's Flying Nun ears and the cute crinkles in her forehead. If I could be half as focused as her, I might actually get something done around here.

That is too cute...well, not for the bee...but the focus! :-)

We have a dog that bees are obsessed with- she never does anything to them but always manages to get stung. one time her face even swelled up

The other dog is obsessed with June bugs- he does epic battle with them- by which he takes his stumpy arms (he's a frenchie) and paws at them while trying to avoid getting pinched

Ack! Sadie's ears were like that, too! But since she was from Puerto Rico, one of her hobbies (while she was there) was digging up tarantulas. This always made me wild with worry, but nothing ever happened...

Taratulas sound crunchy as do June bugs. Maybe they're like potato chips on legs for dogs.

My dog, Olga, will eat anything smaller than her. (Except, Thank Dog, puppies and kittens...she only tastes them). We live in the desert and have a lot of ants. She will spend all day laying in the back yard lapping up ants along a scent trail. Her nickname is "bear" and I could see her getting into a bees nest and not only eating the honey but also the bees.

I thought of Stella yesterday - I was outside an office building waiting out a downpour, and there was a big fat wet bee crawling slowly on the sidewalk. I was just about to go over to try to scoop him up on a piece of paper so I could dump him in the planter, but before I could some totally oblivious lady strode right by and squashed him with her platform shoe. Like Stella's snack, though, he never even saw it coming.

That is such an awesome pic of Stell and the bee. The only thing that it needs is a frame.

oh my goodness- and I thought I would be the only one to mention The Flying Nun!
---that dates us you know!

Love, just love Stella's ears and bee fixation. I like a daily smile.

Stella's flying nun ears are incredible. Maybe you see this every day, Fred, but what a wingspan for those of us that have dogs with lesser "airplane ears".

I still love your header photo of Stella in the mist. So evocative.
