Janey too from what I hear... but you may not have taken a picture of her. Fred, I can't tell you how much these pictures mean to us - may I take a copy of them? Our hearts are breaking. And I'm going to say something else - just read the tributes to thees guys- they were NOT dangerous dogs, and had a refuge and in some cases, homes to go to. Please let me know if I may use the photos on my facebook and blog.

Why exactly were these dogs killed?
Fred & all,
Since I have begun following your blog I have noticed there are several posts that I will probably never be able to read. My heart would break and it actually does something to -dare I say it-my soul-to read of cruelty and the loss of life and the suffering that "we" create on this earth. (I used to be able to withstand some of this type of stuff but as I get older I get more sensitive , less strong and perhaps more in tune with the life that co-exists with us.)
With that in mind I could only read the first few words and look at the photos. It is about to be "Earth Hour" here in NY and I so wish "we" could get our act together-on so many levels-and do the right thing-learning from our mistakes...our energy polices, our climate awareness, the way we treat the earth in which we grow our food ,the air we breath and the water we drink: it all strikes me as wrong and backwards-and this story is 100% in keeping with that frame of mind.
More heartbreaking for me is that since animals can't defend themselves or make their case they are at our mercy. (Sometimes it does strike me that of all the species on this earth, no one should have so much ultimate power over all of the other species like we do.) We can't share with each other , can't be basically compassionate and have so lost touch with what is real and right...It strikes me that "we" are a very disposable world. Killing is an actual answer to a problem. It should not be. And if "we" are a species that finds it O.K. to kill , we are already on the slippery slope that allows for all sorts of other behaviors .
I am not naive and I find life just as difficult as the next person-I struggle to "do onto others as you would have them do unto you" as I was told to do as a young child. I get angry and I know hate too well. But this I know too: I could never kill a living thing. (Even in self defense I happen to know I probably could not kill =something in me must be faulty...)And I have to wonder about the subtle toll all our killing takes on those that do the actual act. I have wondered about this with the death penalty too. And wars obviously. Aren't we doing ourselves harm by putting others in roles where they have to kill...where their job description reads:" kills animals" or "Kills people who might hurt us".
And yet-all of that said, I have no answers for how to make the world a better place...how shitty is that...
This is so sad. They have such soul and love in their eyes.
We did not fail these dogs.
The board and management of THS failed these dogs by refusing to work with rescues and release these dogs to safe environments.
These dogs should not have been incarcerated for years, only to be killed.
My heart is broken by this news. Those poor dogs didn't deserve to die for no what appears to be no good reason. I for one would like to know who authorized it and why, really and truly, why. It just too sad.
These pictures made me cry so hard.
Sigh. I was dreading scrolling down and seeing Peti's face. He was one of my favourites when I worked at the shelter. I'll miss those butt wiggles....
I never even met these dogs yet I cried for them today. People worked hard to find those dogs placement and it was all in vain. What Bullshit that these dogs had someplace to go and they were still sent to their deaths.
Thank you Fred and Melanie. I am so heartbroken over this.. Cant stop crying. These good dogs.. All they needed was a good loving home. They were capable of loving back. We all KNOW so. We failed them. They gave up on them.
I just don't know what to say anymore about the FUBAR situation at THS. I need to read this all again to find out if OSPCA is involved in this at all and if so - SHAME!!!!!!!.
While I don't think that any animal should be kept in a cage or kennel forever I do support every effort to re-home, foster or find a no kill shelter if their lives are in danger.

So unbelieveably sad. My heart broke for every face in those pictures.
I am so angry right now , I cant see straight. I thought that once the ospca took over at the ths, all would be well. Now these people are playing God . These dogs were no more aggressive than any other . This is once again a political move to appease the government. Its not hard to take a dog out of province at all. But these jack-asses managed to read the stupid law their own way to kill off these wonderful dogs.
When is the insanity going to end.?

Shit ! How awful. We (humans) are the worst animal of all.
Technically, we don't have a breed ban in my part of British Columbia. They do, however, charge $1000 a year for licencing an "Pit Bull" breed or cross. I inquired about an APBT at our SPCA but the city doesn't make exceptions for shelter dogs. And so he languished there until he was finally put down, because most families can't afford that.
