How am I supposed to write anything with this stuck to my leg?
You may be thinking to yourselves that I should just stop whining because having a big dog head glued onto an appendage really isn't such a big deal. Rocky isn't just some passive adornment, though. He's actively using his powers of suggestion to control my left hand into moving towards the top of his head and scratching his ears.
Dogs are a constant test of one's will power.

Oh, you think you have it bad... but you haven't had to deal with SchnauzerPokes!
SchnauzerPokes are MUCH worse than a single little dog head attached to your leg :)
Not much gets done with a kitty sleeping on the keyboard either. At which time the dog feels free to ask for pets. You're not doing anything with that hand anyway, right?
Oh yeah? How about 3 miniature dog pokes on different appendages and a 4 kitties MEOWING for attention!?!?! haha this is going to turn out to be one of those "one uppance" types of commentaries.
I love when dogs do this, it makes me die of cute. My dog isn't much for putting her head on me while I'm at the computer.. Instead she will lay as far away from me in the smallest dogball possible and give me the sad eye for ignoring her.
How can you resist a face that CUTE? Shame on you for not giving Rocky anything he wants (*smirk*)
Ahh Pepper does the same thing to me, as do my two cats. Anytime I have my computer open, they decide that is the right time to get pet. They are quite pushy about it too!
Fred!!! Rocky is too cute for words. I agree, it is hard to get anything done with a dog looking for love and affection stuck to your leg! In fact, I blame my wicked little procrastination problem on it...
hahah or trying to read the paper with a cat around...not easy
what is up with cats laying on paper? why is it so appealing?
Susan
Okay, I admit the three pokes and four meows ( in four-part disharmony, I'll bet ) are gold medal material. But I'm with Deebo: one dog doing Poor Pitiful Me eyes, or a single (starving!) cat sitting just within your field of vision and concentrating all her will on you is a qualitative threat! Cue the mind whisper, "Feed the cats. Feed the cats. FEED THE CATS!"
Rocky has some pretty amazing powers of suggestion because I would like to reach out and give him a scratch!
Gotta kiss that NOSE!!
What a cutie!
I have 2 Collies - with noses like that, I never get anything done! Rocky looks adorable!
Too cute, Fred! My danes just sit on me when they want some loving! LOL!
So cute! I could use a bit of that at work.
There are too many things I could say in response to this plea for sympathy...I will limit myself to 3:
1.The serious response: I tend to be in awe of how animals do try communicating with us. My husband claims they have "pea brains" and I have warned him that they will prove him wrong by one day coming up with a clever way to kill him. Both cats love finding toys (that they have hidden from me) & bringing them to me as I sit and work. One cat knows to rub my leg and talk to get my attention. The other, less outgoing cat simply sits behind my chair, waiting quietly. I usually have no idea she is sitting there (for long spans of time) with her Velcro ball until I get up to leave and boy do I feel like _ _ _ _ that she has so very patiently waited for me to get a clue. This means I now neurotically turn and look over my right shoulder for this little black spot of fur, waiting to play fetch. Who knew cats were so good at garden-variety guilt trips.
2.The "I can try and top you " response: As I get up from my desk-both cats invariably get up with me and walk purposefully to the kitchen-weather I am going there or not. Since they have learned that leading me there is not enough clear communication to actually get me there (I think they have calculated the odds ) they now both run into my legs in an attempt to get me to veer right, to those cans that they want opened. And if their nails have not been recently trimmed they feel free to stand on their hind legs, digging their front leg claws into my leg as if to say I must feed them now or face great pain. Good thing I love them.
3. The poignant response: I have been reading through the reader comments to the NYT piece on a man, his cancer and his dog. It has taken me awhile as I always end up crying (quietly so as not to appear foolish or tender hearted) and then I have to stop and go kiss the cats and tell them they both better live long lives because I am not ready to go through "that" again, any time soon. It has made me treasure almost everything they do …
